Prior to becoming a city councillor, Gondek served on the city's planning committee as a citizen member. She was elected the 37th mayor of Calgary on October 18, 2021.
On October 25, 2021, Gondek was sworn in as the city's first female mayor, alongside the newly elected municipal council.Before taking office in 2017, Jyoti was the Director of the Westman Centre for Real Estate Studies at the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business. Jyoti pioneered a new initiative to bring students and professionals together in developing strong and wealthy cities during her three years at the Westman Centre.
She has been providing research-based consulting services for the previous 12 years, spanning from the creation of whole communities to the promotion of healthy corporate cultures. Jyoti has also worked in the financial services industry in the private sector and as a policy analyst in the public sector.
