Raghuram Rajan Career

Raghuram Govind Rajan is a finance professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance. He was the International Monetary Fund's Chief Economist and Director of Research from 2003 to 2006.

He served as the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from September 2013 to September 2016; in 2015, he was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Bank for International Settlements.

In 2005, at the Federal Reserve's annual Jackson Hole conference, Rajan warned about the growing risks in the financial system and proposed policies to mitigate those risks. Former US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers called the warnings "misguided," and Rajan himself a "luddite".
