Ronald Dion DeSantis is an American politician who has served as Florida's 46th governor since January 2019.

DeSantis is a Republican who served in the United States House of Representatives from 2013 to 2018 in Florida's 6th congressional district.

DeSantis was elected to Congress for the first time in 2012, defeating Democratic opponent Heather Beaven.

During his tenure, he helped establish the Freedom Caucus and was an ally of President Donald Trump. DeSantis has frequently criticized Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election in the United States.

He ran for the U.S. Senate briefly in 2016, but dropped out when incumbent Senator Marco Rubio ran for reelection.

DeSantis won the Republican nomination for governor in August 2018, and he chose state representative Jeanette Nuez as his running mate.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in Florida, DeSantis resisted imposing restrictions such as face mask mandates, stay-at-home orders, and vaccination requirements as governor.
