Himanta Biswa Sarma is an Indian politician who currently serves as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam.He previously connected to the Indian National Congress political party. On August 23, 2015, Sarma became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Since 2001, he has been elected five times to the Assam Legislative Assembly, representing Jalukbari. In a general body meeting held in Guwahati on March 25, 2022, Sarma was re-elected president of the Badminton Association of India for a second four-year term, from 2022 to 2026.

Sarma was the candidate for the Congress in the election for Jalukbari in 2001, and he was successful in defeating the AGP leader Bhrigu Phukan. The First Cabinet of Tarun Gogoi appointed him to the position of Minister of State not once, but twice. He was elevated to the position of cabinet minister after being appointed to the government of the Second Tarun Gogoi. After his resignation from Congress, he was appointed to serve in the third cabinet.
Sarma stated that his departure from the Indian National Congress party was due to Rahul Gandhi's poor management as the cause for his departure. In 2016, he was the person in charge of the election campaign for a state that the BJP won, and on May 24, 2016, he was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister.
