In 1981, Grimshaw began her career as a reporter for Nine News in Melbourne. She started doing newscasts in 1985 and by 1987 she was the host of Nine Morning News.

From the early '90s until the late '90s, Grimshaw covered international news for the Nine Network and contributed to A Current Affair, where he also served as host during the program's summer off-season.

When David Reyne first started The Midday Show in 1995, Grimshaw was one of the co-hosts. The next year, she hosted two popular television shows, Today on Saturday and Animal Hospital.
