Kari Lake Professional Career

In May 1991, while still a student at the University of Iowa, Lake began working as an intern at KWQC-TV in Davenport, Iowa. She worked as a production assistant until 1992, when she joined WHBF-TV in Rock Island, Illinois, as a daily reporter and weekend weathercaster. In August of 1994, Lake was designated weekend weather anchor by KPNX in Phoenix, Arizona.

She went on to become the evening anchor at KPNX before going to Albany, New York, to work for WNYT in the summer of 1998. She returned to Arizona in 1999 and served as an evening anchor for KSAZ-TV until 2021, when she quit to run for Arizona governor.

While at KSAZ-TV, Lake interviewed President Barack Obama in 2016 and President Donald Trump in 2020. After quitting from KSAZ in 2021, she appeared in a video for PragerU, a YouTube channel with a Republican bias. On June 1, 2021, Lake submitted paperwork to run for governor of Arizona in the 2022 election.

By the end of the year, Kari Lake had garnered $1.4 million from 12,000 donors. Earlier that year, she had purchased an account on Gab, a social networking platform popular among right-wing radicals. During the campaign, she supported former President Trump.

She erroneously predicted that Trump will win Arizona in 2020. Lake led anti-mask rallies at Arizona State University in August 2021, asking students to ignore the university's mask ordinance. Lake declared that, if elected governor, she would not tolerate COVID-19 mask and immunization requirements.

According to the Phoenix New Times, Lake assured a private audience of Republican retirees in November 2021 that she was taking hydroxychloroquine to prevent COVID-19 infection. She asserted that, if elected governor, she would work to get the medication and ivermectin manufactured in the state to "make it simpler for us to access these lifesaving drugs." Despite numerous studies, neither medicine has been proven effective in treating or curing COVID-19.
