On May 11, 2021, Ukraine's Prosecutor General charged Medvedchuk with treason and attempted robbery of national wealth in Crimea. Medvedchuk was placed under house arrest on May 13, 2021. Medvedchuk escaped from house arrest and went missing on February 28, 2022, four days after Russia invaded Ukraine.
